A countywide residential electronics recycling event will be held on Saturday, October 29 from 8 a.m. until noon at the Apollo Industrial Park in Champaign.
Residents can drop off any of the following items for free:
- Televisions
- Computers, laptops, monitors, keyboards, mice, cables, Zip drives
- VCR/DVD players
- Cellphones
- Fax machines
- MP3 players
- PDAs
- Video game consoles
The drop-off locations will be at 3202 Apollo Drive (enter from Olympian Drive) and the News Gazette Distribution Center. There is a limit of 10 items per resident.
After January 1, 2012, new legislation will go into effect making it illegal to throw electronic devices in with trash bound for the landfill, and fees will be charged for disposal of those devices. This will be residents’ last chance of the year to get rid of their unwanted electronics for free.
