Work has begun on a nearly $1 million remodeling of the Stone Creek Golf Club in southeast Urbana.
In one of the biggest changes, casual dining will be introduced with the addition of Attie’s Bar & Grill.
A casual restaurant was one of the main requests made when Stone Creek subdivision residents were surveyed on what they’d like to see, said Mike Martin, director of residential development for The Atkins Group.
“Attie” was Stone Creek developer Clint Atkins’ nickname when he was growing up, Martin added.
To accommodate the restaurant, the club’s pro shop will move to where the bar used to be, he said.
Martin said he hopes the pro shop will be relocated by July 15 and that the bar and grill will be completed by the beginning of the University of Illinois football season.
The restaurant will have the opportunity to use decks overlooking Stone Creek Golf Course for outside dining, he added.
Martin said the remodeling project stemmed from Susie Atkins’ fondness for Stone Creek and her desire to make it “the best it can be.”
